Boarding Your Dog at a Veterinary Clinic

Springfield dog owners can board at McClure Veterinary Clinic, 5261 N 22nd St in north Ozark, just south of Springfield off U.S. Highway 65. Dogs stay in medium or large runs or small-dog kennels, our team gives medications during the stay, and weekday drop-off and pick-up run from 7am to 6pm. Reservations are required: call (417) 731-4071 and press 2, or complete the boarding form.

Boarding at a veterinary clinic means your dog stays with people who understand dogs medically, not just behaviorally. Medication administration and health monitoring are included with every stay, our veterinarians are on site during clinic hours, and if your dog is due for vaccines or a fecal exam, we can take care of it during the stay (additional fees apply).

Our boarding area has its own entrance and lobby, separate from the clinic waiting room.

Dog Boarding Suites and Daycare

  • Medium and large runs for active and bigger dogs.
  • Small-dog kennels for our tiniest guests.
  • Shared stays: dogs from the same household can board together in one run if they get along. If they fight over food or with each other, we separate them.
  • Daycare: half-day and full-day options for socialization and exercise.

We provide food and water bowls, blankets, cots and some toys. Toys and slow feeders from home are welcome; just let us know if your dog tends to chew up bedding or toys.

Enrichment Add-Ons and Group Play

Upgrade your dog’s stay with personalized enrichment:

  • Additional playtime
  • Enrichment bowl
  • Lick mat
  • Pupsicle
  • Pup cup
  • Snuffle mat
  • Peanut butter toy

Safety first: dogs who show aggression toward people or other dogs are not approved for group playtime.

Want your dog to come home fresh? Add a bath before pickup (includes nail trim, ear cleaning and brush out), or a nail trim, nail grind, anal gland expression or ear cleaning on its own.

Dog Boarding Vaccine and Health Requirements

To keep every guest healthy, dogs must be up to date on:

  • Rabies
  • Bordetella (kennel cough)
  • Distemper/parvo combination (DA2PP or DA2PP-L4)
  • Intestinal parasite exam: a negative fecal exam within the past year
  • Flea and tick prevention: dogs must be on current prevention and flea-free at arrival. If we find fleas or ticks, you will be charged for flea/tick medication.

Missing something? We can update vaccines or run a fecal exam during the stay for an additional fee. Our guide to vaccines needed for dog boarding and grooming explains each one, and our vaccination services page covers scheduling.

What to Pack for Your Dog’s Stay

  • Food from home, in individual bags or a sealed container (no open bags). Familiar food helps prevent an upset stomach. If needed, we have in-house dry kibble.
  • Medications in their original bottles with the veterinary label.
  • Toys or a slow feeder, if your dog uses one.
  • Your instructions: feeding amounts, medication times, and anything that helps your dog feel at home.

You do not need to bring beds, blankets or bowls; we provide them.

Pre-Stay Checklist for Springfield Dog Owners

A little planning makes boarding easier on you and your dog. About two weeks before the stay:

  1. Check vaccine dates for rabies, Bordetella and distemper/parvo. If your dog has never had a Bordetella vaccine, ask us about timing, since some forms need two doses a few weeks apart.
  2. Confirm a negative fecal exam within the past year.
  3. Give flea and tick prevention on schedule so your dog arrives pest-free.
  4. Refill medications and keep them in their original labeled bottles.
  5. Portion food into individual bags or a sealed container.
  6. Tell us how your dog does with other dogs so we can decide on group play.
  7. Reserve your dates with the boarding form, and add a bath or nail trim before pickup if you like.
