Exotic Pet Boarding & Care in Ozark, MO

A dedicated Exotic Haven for small exotic pets inside our Ozark veterinary clinic. Your pet stays in its own secure enclosure while you are away.

Exotic Haven: Boarding for Small Exotic Pets

McClure Veterinary Clinic boards small exotic pets in our Exotic Haven, a dedicated space in our boarding area at 5261 N 22nd St in Ozark, MO, separate from the dog and cat suites. Exotic guests stay in their own secure enclosure brought from home. Because care and vaccination needs vary by species, please call (417) 731-4071 and press 2 before booking.

Finding care for an exotic pet while you travel can be harder than finding a dog sitter. Our Exotic Haven gives small exotic pets a climate-controlled place to stay inside a veterinary facility, with the same reservation process and drop-off times as our dog and cat boarding.

Every species is different, so we start with a conversation. Tell us what kind of pet you have, how they are housed and what their daily routine looks like, and our boarding team will go over whether we can accommodate them and what records or vaccinations we need.

What to Bring for Your Exotic Pet

  • A secure enclosure your pet is used to, with a latch or lid that closes firmly. This is required.
  • Your pet’s regular food, portioned or labeled, in sealed containers. Keeping the diet the same is especially important for small pets with sensitive digestion.
  • Medications in their original bottles with the veterinary label.
  • Habitat items your pet relies on, such as hides, bedding, perches or chew items.
  • Written care instructions: feeding amounts and times, cleaning routine, handling preferences and any temperature or lighting needs.
  • Your contact information and the name and number of the veterinarian who treats your exotic pet.

Medical Care for Exotic Pets

McClure Veterinary Clinic is a full-service hospital for dogs and cats. Exotic species have very different medical needs, so if your rabbit, bird, reptile, pocket pet or other exotic animal needs an exam or treatment, please call (417) 731-4071 before scheduling so we can let you know whether our veterinarians can help with your species.

If your exotic pet sees another veterinarian, bring their contact details and any current treatment instructions when you board, so we can reach them if a question comes up during the stay.

Questions to Ask Before Boarding Any Exotic Pet

Whether you board with us or somewhere else, these questions help you choose a safe place for a small or unusual pet:

  • Will my pet be kept away from dogs and cats? At McClure, the Exotic Haven is a separate space from our canine suites and feline room.
  • Is the space climate-controlled? Our boarding accommodations are climate-controlled, clean and comfortable.
  • Can my pet stay in their own enclosure? Yes. We require it, so your pet keeps familiar surroundings and the right setup for their species.
  • Will they follow my feeding and medication instructions? Bring written instructions and labeled food and medications, and our team will follow them.
  • What records are needed? Requirements vary by species, so call us to go over them before your stay.

Tips for a Smooth Stay

  • Do not change food or bedding right before boarding. Familiar routines help small pets eat and rest normally.
  • Transport in the enclosure or a secure carrier, kept out of direct sun and drafts in the car.
  • Label everything with your pet’s name: food containers, medications and habitat items.
  • Mention recent changes in appetite, droppings, shedding, molting or behavior when you drop off.
  • Book early. Boarding spaces fill fast.

Boarding the Whole Family

Traveling with a full house? Dogs, cats and exotic pets can all stay at McClure while you are away, each in their own space. See dog boarding, cat boarding and our main pet boarding page. Dogs can also add enrichment, a bath or a nail trim before pickup.
